INGREDIENTS
- Appropriate amount of rice
- Salt (appropriate amount)
- Seaweed
- Sprinkles (as you like)
DIRECTIONS
Prepare rice
First, put as much rice in the bowl as you need.
If you wet the bowl with water, the rice will not stick to it.
If the rice is too hot, you cannot make onigiri. In that case, let it cool a little.
First, get your hands wet.
If you hold the rice ball without wetting your hands, a lot of rice will stick to your hands. Therefore, wet your hands a little.
If you make it too wet, it will become sticky, so be careful.
Put salt in the palm of your hand.
Some people mix salt with rice.
But instead of mixing salt with rice, you can feel the salty taste by holding it in the palm of your hand.
It also saves salt because you don’t have to use a lot of salt. The recommendation is to take salt on the palm and sprinkle it.
Grab an appropriate amount of rice.
There is no size limit. The amount is easy to eat. If small children eat it, try to make it in a small size.
Let’s hold it firmly.
At first, clamp it firmly without worrying about the shape.
It’s not a big deal if you shape it later! The salt you got earlier will reach the surface of the rice ball, allowing you to feel the salty taste better.
Shape it.
This time I will finish it in a triangular shape, so I will make the shape so that it becomes a triangle. Shape it like a child playing with clay.
Let’s make different spices.
Since the salt is not mixed into the rice, you can make different flavors.
This time I will use furikake.
Many Japanese furikake are mixed with rice and eaten, so they are seasoned that way.
Mix well.
Mix the sprinkles and rice well. If you think it is a little too little, add more sprinkles.
Roll up the seaweed.
Wrapping the seaweed keeps the rice from sticking to your hands when you eat it. And because you can get the nutrients from seaweed, the nutritional value is high.
This time I only wrapped the bottom part. Also, you can wrap the whole rice ball with seaweed OK, and there is no rule on how to wrap it.
The Onigiris have been completed.
You now have a rice ball of reasonable size. Let’s enjoy it while eating other Japanese food or drinking Japanese tea.
We use onigiri a lot in my bento!
