We go to a shrine near our house or a nearby shrine to pay our respects. We too went to a shrine to pay our first visit on January 1, the New Year's Day.

This year's Chinese zodiac sign is the Year of the Rabbit

In Japanese culture, there are twelve signs of the Chinese zodiac.
Each year falls under one of the 12 animal signs, and this year is the Year of the Rabbit.
The 12 animals are.
Rabbit, cow, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, sheep, monkey, bird, dog, and boar.

The Chinese zodiac reads a little differently.

Rabbit is "Ne"
Cow is "Ushi"
Tiger is "Tora"
Rabbit is "Uu"
Dragon is "Tatsu
Snake is "Mi"
Horse is "Uma"
Sheep is "Hitsuji"
Monkey is "Saru"
Bird is "Tori"
Dog is "Inu"
Boar is "Ii"
